چکیده

Phenol is an important pollutant widely discharged as a component of hydrocarbon fuels, but its degradation in cold regions challenging due to the harsh environmental conditions. To date, there little information available concerning capability for phenol biodegradation by indigenous Antarctic bacteria. In this study, enzyme activities and genes encoding degradative enzymes identified using whole genome sequencing (WGS) were investigated determine pathway(s) Arthrobacter sp. strains AQ5-05 AQ5-06, originally isolated from Antarctica. Complete involved only ortho-cleavage detected both strains. This was validated assays catechol 1,2-dioxygenase 2,3-dioxygenase, which indicated activity strains, agreement with results WGS. Both psychrotolerant optimum temperature degradation, being between 10 15 °C. study suggests potential use cold-adapted bacteria bioremediation pollution environments.

New metabolic pathway for degradation of 2-nitrobenzoate by Arthrobacter sp. SPG

Arthrobacter sp. SPG utilized 2-nitrobenzoate as its sole source of carbon and energy and degraded it with accumulation of stoichiometric amounts of nitrite ions. Salicylate and catechol were detected as metabolites of the 2-nitrobenzoate degradation using high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Enzyme activities for 2-nitrobenzoate-2-monooxygenase, sali...

Metabolic pathway for degradation of 2-chloro-4-aminophenol by Arthrobacter sp. SPG

A degradation pathway of 2-chloro-4-aminophenol (2C4AP) was studied in an Arthrobacter sp. SPG that utilized 2C4AP as its sole source of carbon and energy. The 2C4AP degradation was initiated by a 2C4AP-deaminase that catalyzed the conversion of 2C4AP into chlorohydroquinone (CHQ) with removal of ammonium ion. In the next step, a CHQ-dehalogenase dehalogenated CHQ to hydroquinone (HQ) that clea...

Antarctic marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. KNOUC808 as a source of cold-adapted lactose hydrolyzing enzyme

Psychrophilic bacteria, which grow on lactose as a carbon source, were isolated from Antarctic polar sea water. Among the psychrophilic bacteria isolated, strain KNOUC808 was able to grow on lactose at below 5°C, and showed 0.867 unit of o-nitrophenyl β-D-galactopyranoside(ONPG) hydrolyzing activity at 4°C. The isolate was gram-negative, rod, aerobic, catalase positive and oxidase positive. Opt...

Degradation of a sodium acrylate oligomer by an Arthrobacter sp.

Arthrobacter sp. strain NO-18 was first isolated from soil as a bacterium which could degrade the sodium acrylate oligomer and utilize it as the sole source of carbon. When 0.2% (wt/wt) oligomer was added to the culture medium, the acrylate oligomer was found to be degraded by 70 to 80% in 2 weeks, using gel permeation chromatography. To determine the maximum molecular weight for biodegradation...

Isolation and genetic characterization of phenol-utilizing marine bacteria and their phenol degradation pathway

Phenolic compounds are widely distributed toxic pollutants in seawater, and their effective degradation is very important for bioremediation programs. In this study, nine phenol-degrading bacteria were isolated from seawater samples, which were collected from the coastal areas of Japan. Besides the enrichment substrate phenol, all isolates could utilize at least one isomer of cresol as the sole...
